What’s really going on… [AUDIO]

What a busy week. I’ve got a bunch of stuff coming out in the paper this weekend, but that meant putting in some major work over the last few days.
You can see some of it in this week’s HILife, including a feature on Davey Shindig (pictured above with his KTUH co-host Molly Firecracker) and my weekly column, “In the Mix.”
Back to Shindig for a moment. His show on KTUH is called “Party Shuffle” and is definitely worth a listen if you’re free from noon to 3 p.m. HST Fridays and interested in hearing something new.
In typical Hawaii fashion, he holds down multiple jobs in addition to playing out as a DJ. He also works at a local recording studio and helps keep “The John Noland Show” running on KUMU-AM as a board operator.
Shindig’s specialty as a DJ is the art of mash-up. Check out the story for an interesting quote he gave about that style of mixing.
He even released a new album, “The Vertigo LP,” and THREE mixtapes a few weeks ago. You can’t buy them at retail, so head to the Loft on Fridays and ask him for copies.
Or, just press play… you know who got the hook-up. This is one of the tracks Shindig suggested I listen to from “Vertigo”:
New Young Pony Club feat. Miss Kittin – “Ice Kreem Kittinz (Davey Shindig Mash-Up)”
Augie T, “Lost” star Jorge Garcia and Tempo Valley all make appearances in my column this week, and I’ve got a few picks if you’re heading out to party tonight or tomorrow. “Crawlspace” has details about DJ Funkmaster Flex at Pipeline Cafe and “The Next Movement” at NextDoor.
And to make up for the lack of posts recently, I’ll be back with live coverage of tomorrow’s X-1 fights at the Blaisdell.
I’ll be there, so keeping checking the blog for the immediate scoops on each bout. And do read the rest of the Star-Bulletin’s online edition; there will be video posted that I shot Thursday of Mia St. John, who makes her MMA debut tomorrow after a successful boxing career. Sports reporter Billy Hull spoke with her as well, and he’ll have a story in the paper that goes with the video.
And on Sunday, I’ll have an interview with fashion designer Mamo Howell and her 25-year-old grandson, Tautua Howell-Reed, in the paper. Dude is following in tutu’s footsteps with an urban twist.
Just for the heck of it, here are a few more fliers to help motivate if you’re undecided about going out this weekend. Lots of live music, as well as quality local DJs doing their thing.
Honolulu continues to build its scene, something that’s been going long a lot longer than some people realize.
