Inside HiLife: Minus the Bear, Bill Tapia and Samadhi Hawaii

Courtesy Suicide Squeeze Records
Saturday’s the big night this weekend, with a pair of concerts worth checking out and the finals of the inaugural Pan-Pacific Soccer Championship set to take place at Aloha Stadium.
You can check the Star-Bulletin sports section for more details on Brian Ching and David Beckham. But be sure to get your hands on HiLife for my story about Minus the Bear, a Seattle-based rock quintet that will make their Hawaii debut at Pipeline Cafe on Saturday.
We also have details on Bill Tapia’s “Centenary Celebration” concert at Diamond Head Theatre.
Centenary means ONE HUNDRED YEARS, folks. Braddah is 100 years old and still playing his ukulele!
Can’t make it out on Saturday? Spend Sunday afternoon at ArtZone Hawaii in Nuuanu with Samadhi Hawaii. As the Star-Bulletin’s Burl Burlingame writes in his story, “if it sounds a little Cirque de Da Kine, you wouldn’t be far off.”
And as always, be sure to read “In the Mix” for my personal weekend picks. I also have details on Lotus Soundbar’s nomination for “Best Sound System” in a national nightclub competition and Pimpbot’s upcoming Canadian tour.
One correction, however: Lotus won’t host Marques Wyatt on Feb. 29 – NextDoor will.
I meant to write that “House fans will want to wait until March 14, when Johnny Fiasco returns to town.”
My bad.
