When I was assigned to write about Augie Tulba’s performance in the round at Blaisdell Arena last year, there was only one place to take the picture that would accompany my story.
Talking to him on the phone, we both agreed one of the biggest accolades one can receive is to have your name up on the electronic sign at the corner of Kapiolani and Ward.
So that’s where we agreed to meet up, me with Star-Bulletin photographer Craig Kojima in tow, and Tulba accompanied by his wife and a bunch of plate lunches. I got my interview as we all sat and ate on the grass; take a close look at the lower left hand corner of the picture and you can see part of the bag that held our feast.
One of the questions I asked was something along the lines of, “You sold out the Hawaii Theatre last year, and it looks like you’ll end up selling out the Blaisdell this year … how do you plan to top this in 2008?”
At the time, he didn’t really have an answer.
But give Tulba a few months to come up with a big idea, and he will.
Tulba returns to the Hawaii Theatre on Saturday, but this time he’s taking his comedy direct to live TV from 8 to 9 p.m. on KFVE.
I got a chance to chat with Tulba earlier this week, and thanks to the magic of Talkshoe, I’m able to share our conversation with all of you. Click on “Play Now” to listen.
