Eggs ‘n Things to close Aug. 31

Star-Bulletin file
Star-Bulletin business columnist Erika Engle tipped me off to a report in this week’s Pacific Business News that longtime Waikiki eatery Eggs ‘n Things will close its doors on Aug. 31.
A quick check of their Web site confirms the closure, but fans of the restaurant shouldn’t worry too much. They’ll reopen by Nov. 1 in a two-story building across the street from the Waikiki Post Office on Saratoga Rd.
This isn’t the first time Eggs ‘n Things has changed its address. After opening in 1974, the restaurant relocated in 1986 from Ena Rd. to its current home on Kalakaua Ave.
Unfortunately, the area they’re moving to is just as bad (if not worse) as where they are now when it comes to parking.
You can forget about parking in the Post Office lot; our friends at HPD have always made sure customers at nearby Arnold’s Beach Bar and Grill don’t use it.
Please believe me on this one… I know from experience!
Another unfortunate change coming when Eggs ‘n Things reopens: No more late night omlettes and pancakes after hitting the clubs.
According to the PBN report, the restaurant’s new hours of operation will be from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
So if you want to savor the late-night, post-party craziness this place was famous for when the Wave Waikiki stood a few blocks down the road, get down there this weekend or next. Your days are numbered.

Eggs & Things - I remember when that place was run by a bunch of stoner hippies back in the ’70s. Good Times…

just park at the hale koa parking lot at saratoga. it’ll be cheaper than other places…. or chance the street parking.

huh. Rob.
“stoner hippies”
a redundancy.
I love this:
“You can forget about parking in the Post Office lot; our friends at HPD have always made sure customers at nearby Arnold’s Beach Bar and Grill don’t use it.
But Hawaii’s Natural High radio ads say:
“park across the street at the post office!”

I remember when you could get 3 pancakes and 2 eggs for 99 cents from 1 A.M. to 2 A.M. Now those days are gone. Still the best pancakes in the Islands.

I don’t remember hearing that line in any of Hawaii’s Natural High’s radio or TV commericals.
It might be easier to get away with parking there during the day when there is a lot of traffic in the area, but HPD actively patrols that lot after the Post Office closes.

I just hope this time it’s wheelchair acceptable. I’ve always been envious of the people waiting in line at the present location. They told me I can go through a back alley to go in from the back door, but I hated to think that as busy as they are they would have to waste that kind of time on me. I heard it’s nothing that special, but I’d like to check the hype out. (smile)

You’re in luck. According to the PBN article, the new location will comply with all ADA requirements.
