Eddie Vedder to wrap up solo tour in Hawaii
I was out in Kaneohe when I noticed the news on Twitter, thanks to KSSK on-air personality Kathy “Kathy with a K” Nakagawa.
Pearl Jam lead singer and part-time Oahu resident Eddie Vedder is coming back to Hawaii in July for a concert on Maui and two shows on Oahu. The visit comes a little more than two years since he shared the stage with Jack Johnson at the 2007 Kokua Festival (pictured).
The performances, scheduled for June 29 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center and July 1 and July 2 at the Hawaii Theatre, will take place in locations drastically different than Pearl Jam’s 2006 concerts at the Blaisdell Arena and Aloha Stadium. Along with the smaller venues, Vedder will play a solo set with New Zealand’s Liam Finn opening each night. They will also be the final stops of a 14-date trek across the United States.
Interestingly, Vedder has no plans to visit Seattle this time around. And in a nod to his familiarity with local customs, the announcement on Pearl Jam’s official Web site informs fans that tickets for the Hawaii dates have “no kama’aina discount” available.
Tickets are listed at $81 each on the site, but are only available to registered members of Pearl Jam’s official fan club (through 2 p.m. Friday) and must be purchased in pairs. The rest of us will get a crack at whatever tickets are left on April 18 via Ticketmaster.
But if you live in Hawaii, heads up – Vedder is looking out for the locals, offering a limited number of discounted tickets at four locations on April 17.
There’s no mention of this on the official site, but Pearl Jam’s MySpace blog contains the following info:
Hawaii Local Ticket Pre-Sale - First-Come, First-Serve on April 17th:

Gotta love the fact that Eddie is showing some aloha to the residents of this state. He’s out here pretty often and you can tell he truly respects our land and our people.

i was just saying to some friends that I wished more musicians would come to Oahu and play. we get the big concerts like U2, and the local artists, but not much in between. Glad to hear Eddie will be coming!
