Eddie Kamae @ Sunset on the Beach

If you have the time on Sunday, don’t miss a special performance by living legend Eddie Kamae at Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki.
In conjunction with the Hawaii International Film Festival, Kamae and his wife, Myra Kamae, will be on hand to screen the Hawaii premiere of “Lahaina: Waves of Change.” The Kamaes co-produced the project with Dennis Mahaffay and Lisa Altieri Sosa; Robert Pennybacker and Steve Okino wrote the script and Ka’upena Wong served as narrator.
According to press materials, the film “explores Lahaina’s history as a sacred Hawaiian place and examines the changes over the years,” but “despite the altered complexion … contends that the seaport sector on Maui remains sacred because of what’s in the hearts of the people who live there.”
“Lahaina: Waves of Change” will screen at 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, followed by “We Are Together” at 7:40 p.m.
You’ll want to get there early, not only to secure a good spot on the sand, but to also catch a rare live performance by Eddie Kamae and the Sons of Hawaii (pictured above) outside of their regular Sunday afternoon gig at Honey’s in Kaneohe.
Mike Ka’awa, Ocean Kaowili, Analu Aina and Paul Kim will join Kamae on stage at 5:30 p.m. following a set by Vaihi at 4:30 p.m. Food booths will open at 4 p.m.
