As promised in today’s column, I’ve got some expanded coverage of “American Idol” season three finalist Camile Velasco and her new single, a cover of the Bob Marley classic “Guava Jelly.”
Velasco called in last week from Long Beach, Calif., where she’s gearing up for the single’s official release on iTunes and finishing up work on her full-length debut album.

Okay, so it’s more like 10 minutes instead of five this time around, but here is the complete interview with Crucible guitarist Derrick Haderman (pictured) as promised in this week’s column.
I had the opportunity to chat with Haderman last week via Talkshoe about the band’s 11th anniversary show on Saturday at Pipeline Cafe. Crucible will be joined by fellow rockers Phoenix Rose and Hilo-based Augustine at this 18+ show; doors open at 9 p.m.

When I was assigned to write about Augie Tulba’s performance in the round at Blaisdell Arena last year, there was only one place to take the picture that would accompany my story.
Talking to him on the phone, we both agreed one of the biggest accolades one can receive is to have your name up on the electronic sign at the corner of Kapiolani and Ward.
This video kicks off a new feature in the blog – “Five Minutes With:” will appear occasionally online and spotlight the movers-and-shakers in Honolulu’s nightlife scene.
My first interview was with DJ Roxy Cottontail, a New York-based party promoter, DJ and rapper. Check out what she has to say about the New York club scene, what makes a good party and what kind of music she’s listening to these days.
