Adventures in Clubland: Champions, Pipeline and NextDoor [PICS]
Hope everyone is having a good Memorial Day. It’s not a holiday for me, however, so I’m staying on the grind and posting these shots from my adventures on Friday.
The above picture is my favorite – just after walking into the upstairs lounge at NextDoor, birthday boy DJ Eskae spotted me and made his approach.
Ever wonder what the proper reaction is when a party animal attacks? It’s simple, really.
FEED HIM SHOTS!!!
I started my Friday at Champions Sports Bar, a new watering hole on Keeaumoku that replaces the Easy Music Center that used to occupy the building. I’ll have more about the bar in HiLife on Friday, since Champions is the subject of this month’s Barfly.
That’s owner Nolan Uehara, second from left, with marketing director Rick Rock and two of bar’s servers:
James Coles was in the building as well, reminding anyone who would listen that tickets for Bobby Brown’s August concert at Pipeline Cafe go on sale next week:
Moses is one of Honolulu’s best flair bartenders. Too bad I couldn’t get my flash to work until he was pau tossing bottles:
102.7 Da Bomb’s Rella was there as well, with boyfriend in tow. Gotta love his shirt:
Seeing Rick and Rella reminded me that I haven’t been to Pipeline Cafe on a Friday since the club made some changes to its “Foreplay Fridaze” weekly.
While it still isn’t as crowded on a Friday night as it was three or four years ago, there were more people here at 11:30 p.m. than I’ve seen in months:
As you can see, the go-go dancers have moved off the stage and onto boxes on the dance floor. Another change is the closure of the Tiki Lounge.
But, the club now offers 50-cent drinks before midnight! That’s a change I can appreciate.
DJ Kool E (left) and DJ Rude Dogg are the Friday residents at Pipeline:
102.7 Da Bomb’s Charlie Boy handles picture-taking duties at station events. I wish my job would buy me a camera like his…
POP QUIZ: Which person in this picture belongs to the USO Car Club?
Next up was Chinatown, where Doc Martin was on the decks in the main room at NextDoor:
While DJ Roxy Cottontail killed it upstairs:
Back to DJ Eskae for a second. Remember the first picture in this blog? Right after I took it, we made our way to the bar to celebrate his birthday.
I proceed to order some drinks – a double shot of Hennessy for him, plus two Kamikaze shots for us to toast – but forget that I’m dealing with a PARTY ANIMAL.
I hand Eskae the double shot, and he POUNDS it. Then he takes the Kamikaze shot and POUNDS that, too.
Meanwhile, I’m standing there with a shot in my hand and my jaw on the floor. I forgot this dude doesn’t believe in sipping Hennessy.
Craaaaaaaaazy. Eskae is a BEAST.
Fellow Nocturnal Sound Krew member DJ Compose was there as well, rocking his stunna shades and helping Eskae celebrate. If you slept on his latest mixtape, “Can’t NOC the Hustle: Vol. 1,” check out the NSK blog to download it for free.
It was a good night at NextDoor:
Spotted DJ Davey Shindig on my way out. He can’t wait for the Loft to reopen in June:
Unfortunately, I could feel myself getting sick towards the end of the night on Friday. Instead of going out on Saturday and Sunday, I ended up staying home with some NyQuil and a box of tissues.
But I’m feeling better now, so I should be ready to interview Colby Caillat tomorrow when she performs at the Sheraton Waikiki. Check back later in the week for some exclusive video.

Sorry, I don’t know what Lacy is looking at in that picture.
You should visit Chinatown and ask her sometime…

Thanks man… hey, I heard you were at my local a few weeks back singing karaoke with some co-workers. You gotta give me a heads-up next time! =)

Sometimes looking into a camera can show what your true emotions and thoughts are.. if I avoid that by looking up, no one can know what I’m thinking. And the Next Door chick’s name is LACY.. aka HOT MUFFIN babe.
From now on, I am going to look up in EVERY photo just for you Kimo, and I’ll tell everyone I’m thinking about you..
xoxo
