The new year hasn’t been kind to Cirque Hawaii, the only remaining stage show of its kind on Oahu after Waikiki Nei went on an indefinite hiatus in October.
According to this story from Pacific Business News, the production was evicted from its space in the former IMAX theater on Jan. 1 after failing to renew its lease. It also reports that Cirque Hawaii plans to return next month at a new venue.
What some might not realize, however, is that late-night parties were also held in the building. James Coles’ United DJs crew moved their “Fire” weekly to Cirque after getting dropped by Lulu’s last year, and Artist Groove Network had hosted “Majestic Wednesdays” at the venue in recent months.
No word where AGN will land, but Coles got in touch yesterday to let me know “Fire” would be relocating to Pipeline Cafe. Following a failed attempt at bringing in a Latin crowd on Fridays with “Carnaval,” the club has decided to let Coles follow in the steps of Rick Rock and establish another 18-and-over weekly.
“Fire” debuts at Pipeline on Jan. 23, with DJs Peter Lau, (a)nrky, Blayz and Cin in two rooms until 4 a.m. Cover is $10 ($5 at the door with a flier) and those wearing skirts get in free before 11 p.m.
It’s kind of interesting to see “Fire” coming in and offering “two rooms of hip-hop and R&B” for the “young, fly and flashy,” as Coles puts it. When I talked to Pipeline’s new owner a couple of months ago, he told me the plan was to scale back on these types of 18-and-over events.
Less than 48 hours before California-based rapper Tyga was to perform at Pipeline Cafe, promoters BAMP Project have updated their website to reflect that the concert has been postponed. A source tells me he might make the trip to Honolulu next month as part of another show that’s in the works.
So instead of getting crunk to “Coconut Juice” and other tracks tomorrow night at Pipeline, the nightclub will feature Japanese DJ Tomoya with warm-up sets by DJs Pentagon, Kyoko and Christian Mochizuki. Doors open at 10 p.m. for this retooled 18-and-over party, with $3 iced teas, $2 draft beer and a $10 cover in effect all night.
Although I’m sure it wasn’t intended this way, BAMP made up for delaying Tyga’s appearance by placing tickets on sale today for a homecoming concert by Pepper (pictured) at Pipeline on Feb. 21. That show will be the second of a three-day, three-island tour by the Big Island boys, which follows dates in Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada this month and next.
Tickets, available at all Ticketmaster outlets, are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. VIP access to the Tiki Lounge is available for $30 in advance, $60 at the door (space permitting). Doors open at 6 p.m.

I’m kidding.
But the King seems to be in a kolohe mood these days, introducing a pair of web-based promotions that will make you shake your head and laugh… unless you’re the sensitive type.
I heard about the Angry Whopper earlier this week, when a Hawaii-based reviewer for The Impulsive Buy picked one up to sample. While “crispy Angry onions” and “spicy Angry sauce” are reason enough to giggle out loud, Burger King also launched www.angry-gram.com.
According to the website, an Angry Gram is “the perfect way to let someone know they annoy the hell outta you.”
In other words, it’s a great way to stir up inter-office drama. You can insult someone without having to actually, you know, SAY IT TO THEIR FACE.
And the fun doesn’t stop there; Burger King also developed a Facebook application that gives you the chance to download a coupon for a free Whopper sandwich.
The catch? You first have to unfriend 10 people in your network, and the application posts something on their wall so they know exactly what you did.
Funny, yeah?
Think I’m going to log in now and choose a few unsuspecting victims who can take a joke.

Last night’s concert was the first I’ve been to in 2009, which makes it a little easier to say the following:
Ne-Yo was the best show I’ve been to this year!
Yeah, there might be 11 and a half months to go, but Mr. Year of the Gentleman showed up at the Blaisdell Arena last night with a full compliment of musicians and backup dancers in tow, working his way back into touring shape with a 70-minute set that set a pretty high standard for other artists with plans to perform here.
Yes, it was that good, despite getting a full beer poured down my back at one point during the evening.
I’ve got more than 20 pictures from the concert after the jump.
