It doesn’t appear to be part of the official lineup of events held in conjunction with the fifth annual Girl Fest Hawaii, but Diamond Head Cove Health Bar’s “Girls With Guitars” acoustic showcase promises to entertain with some of Honolulu’s most talented female musicians.

Anuhea Jenkins kicked off the four-night event on Sunday and will be followed by Keahiwai’s Lei Melket on Tuesday, One Right Turn’s Connie Cruz on Wednesday and The Girlas (pictured above with Ernie Cruz, Jr.) on Thursday.

The music starts at 8 p.m. each night, and admission is free. People are encouraged to come early and enjoy “traditional Hawaiian ‘Awa by candlelight” along with the live acoustic sets.

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin’s John Berger wrote an interesting story that appeared in Sunday’s newspaper, which discussed the continued impact of the Internet on the local music industry and what Hawaii-based recording artists (and their labels) are doing in response.

One of those artists is Raiatea Helm, pictured above. She’s partnered with Hawaiian Host Chocolates to release a CD single of her new song, “Where I Belong.”

Here’s a short video I produced to go with Gary Chun’s review of Cirque Du Soleil’s “Saltimbanco” at Blaisdell Arena last week.

While “Saltimbanco” is the second-longest running Cirque show, it’s the first time Hawaii residents get to see the production here in the islands.

I only stayed for the first half of the show on opening night, but I was impressed with the athletic ability of the performers. The singing and silly talk by some of the cast wasn’t really my thing, but I could appreciate how much time went into preparing a show of this magnitude.
