After spending some time establishing the pau hana entertainment and drink specials at RumFire, the folks at the Sheraton Waikiki are now ready to take the next step.
Starting this weekend, and every second and fourth Saturday thereafter, the lounge with an emphasis on quality rum will present “Oceanfront” in collaboration with promoters Flash Hansen and Matty Hazelgrove.

I got a chance to sit down with Christian Yrizarry and Sani Apuakehau, also known as Beach 5, in advance of their performance at Jammin’ Hawaiians on Saturday.
They shared what it’s like to rebuild after Yrizarry’s previous band, Ho’onu’a, split up in 2006 and how the current state of the local music industry affects their careers.

Finally got confirmation that Jason Mraz’s return to Honolulu will be at the Waikiki Shell and not the Blaisdell Concert Hall, as originally announced.
If you were able to buy tickets at the Blaisdell Box Office or Times Supermarket locations on Oahu before they sold out last weekend, you’ll be able to exchange them for reserved seats at the Shell starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Exchanges must take place at the original point of purchase, and you have until April 26 to do so. Those who purchased online or by phone will have their tickets exchanged automatically; if you’re not happy with your new seats, call (877) 750-4400 and choose option number two for a different seating assignment.
Don’t have tickets? Advance general admission lawn tickets, priced at $25, go on sale at the same time exchanges begin on Saturday.
Today’s date almost slipped under my radar, especially with the announcement from our IT department that all of the Star-Bulletin blogs would be unavailable while they migrated everything over to a new server.
But yeah. It’s been one year since “So Necessary…” launched.
I hope I’ve been able to inform and entertain you these past 12 months, and promise to keep on grinding amidst all those other sites out there in the blogosphere.
It’s not just a job, it’s a lifestyle, and I’m really lucky I get paid to do what so many others can only call a hobby.
Got a little “research” to do for Barfly, then it’s off to Chinatown to celebrate!

Just got an e-mail from the folks at Marine Corps Base Hawaii announcing the lineup for BayFest 2008.
For the second year in a row, event organizers passed on a big name hip-hop act in favor of country and rock acts.
Little Big Town and Rodney Atkins will perform on July 4, followed by 3 Doors Down (pictured) on July 5. Everclear, who last visited the islands in 2005 to play Pipeline Cafe, will close things out on July 6 with Live.

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to score a front row seat (almost) to the Brown Bags to Stardom concert at the Waikiki Shell.
I’m always happy to accept when I get invited to judge events like this. It’s a great opportunity to see what the next generation is up to.
