Since there’s no “In the Mix” in today’s Star-Bulletin, I’m hooking you up with an expanded edition of my weekend picks.
With Hot Import Nights in town and two new venues opening, there’s already lots to do. But keep your options open, and you’ll find there are even more parties worth checking out on Friday and Saturday.
Not sure if he’s staying for Christmas, but former Hawaii resident Paul Ogata returns for a holiday show on Dec. 14 at Pipeline Cafe.
I first heard about this in September (and posted about it here), but now it’s official:
The Police will play the Blaisdell Arena on Feb. 16.
Still in California, which means I’ll miss tonight’s Talib Kweli concert at Pipeline Cafe.
But it still promises to be a good time even without me in the building, so head down if you’ve got the scrips for tickets.
Make sure you arrive early, too, for opener Creed Chameleon – it’ll definitely beat waiting for the show to begin as the DJs play with their laptops and turntables.
Don’t got the money because you were at the mall yesterday? I understand, even though I personally don’t care very much about shopping on the day after Thanksgiving.
By the time this entry is posted online, I’ll be in Northern California to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family.
I’m not sure if I’ll have internet access while I’m there. If I do, I’ll try to get some weekend picks posted up.

In case you missed it, last week’s HiLife included a story I wrote about the Wave Waikiki Reunion scheduled for tomorrow at Senor Frog’s in Waikiki.
As an added bonus, I’ve got an exclusive video interview with former Wave owner Jack Law. In it, he shares one of his favorite memories of the Waikiki nightclub.

Three talented mainland mixologists arrived in Waikiki last weekend for the 2007 Travel + Leisure Beverage Arts Challenge at the Halekulani.
Patricia Richards, Sierra Lesjack and Matt Martinez (pictured above with Halekulani staff) represent the best and the brightest in the bartending world.
All three work in hotels: Richards at the Wynn Las Vegas, Lesjack at the Four Seasons San Francisco and Martinez at the Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows.
Tasked with developing an original cocktail that utilizes Grand Marnier in its recipe, the trio each came up with a different take on what type of flavors compliment the liqueur best.
Their recipes were selected as the best out of 250 submitted for consideration.
